Embrace the season of stillness…. Winter

Winter is for retreating,

not blooming

Winter is a beautiful reminder that life moves in seasons. It’s not a time for blooming or pushing toward resolutions but rather a season for resting, reflecting, and preparing for the renewal of spring. Just as nature pauses to restore, so can we.

Drawing from biblical wisdom and holistic principles, I’ve gathered 5 nourishing practices to help you embrace this season and prepare your temple—body, mind, and spirit—for growth.

1. Eat Warm and Nourishing Foods
Winter calls for comforting, cooked meals that warm the body and strengthen digestion. Think hearty soups, roasted root vegetables, and stews spiced with warming flavors like ginger and cinnamon. These foods not only nourish your body but also support your energy reserves during the colder months.
👉 Reflection Tip: Psalm 104:14-15 reminds us that God provides food to sustain us—choose whole, seasonal foods as a way to honor His creation.

2. Conserve Your Energy
Winter isn’t the season for overexertion. Just as the earth rests, allow yourself to slow down and conserve energy. Simplify your schedule and create space for quiet moments of reflection.
👉 Reflection Tip: Ecclesiastes 3:1 reminds us there’s “a time for everything.” Let this be a time of rest and preparation.

3. Protect Your Body from the Cold
Keeping warm is essential to preserving your vitality and energy. Wear cozy layers, protect your neck and lower back, and always keep your feet warm by avoiding walking barefoot on the cold floors. By keeping these main access points warm on your body you can help keep your metabolism boosted throughout the wintertime. Also by siping on herbal teas like ginger or licorice root can help to warm your body and digestion from the inside out. (See my wintertime ginger tea recipe below)

4. Reflect and Renew Your Mindset
Winter is the perfect time to focus inward and align your heart with God’s truth. Spend time journaling, meditating on Scripture, or simply sitting in prayerful stillness. Utilize my Taking Thoughts Captive Workbook to help guide you in this process.
👉 Reflection Tip: Romans 12:2 encourages us to renew our minds. Use this season to identify any fears or limiting beliefs, and replace them with God’s promises.

5. Plan for Spring’s Renewal
This season of stillness is also a time to prepare for growth. Envision where God is calling you to thrive in the next season, and commit those dreams to prayer.
👉 Action Step: Write down one area of your life where you’d like to see renewal and ask God to guide your steps.

Winter isn’t wasted—it’s the foundation for the bloom to come. Let’s use this season to nourish our temples, deepen our faith, and prepare for all that God has in store for us.
