Finding Joy in Your Waiting Season

Waiting isn’t wasted—there’s beauty to be found here.

If you’ve ever found yourself in that in-between place—waiting for answers, clarity, or direction—you know how easy it is to feel restless or discouraged.

Or even like your prayers aren't being heard and that the answer is so far off, that you're just in torment over it at times.

But what if waiting wasn’t something to simply endure? What if this season was meant to be beautiful in its own way?

With some sincere wisdom, I’ve been learning to lean into the waiting—not as a season of “I don’t have” or “I don’t want to be here,” but as an invitation to slow down, embrace joy, and trust that Adonai is moving even when I can’t yet see it.

Psalm 27:14 says, “Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord!”

Do not defer your joy or happiness in your waiting season, our Heavenly Father wants to see you delighting in your life, even now, for we are not promised tomorrow.

This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” – Psalm 118:24

“Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring.” – Proverbs 27:1

“Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.” – James 4:14

Here are a few things that have helped me embrace this season more fully:

Create a Morning Rhythm: Beginning my day with a quiet moment of gratitude and prayer helps anchor my heart and mind in peace.

Celebrate and Dwell in the Small Moments: Finding joy in simple pleasures—a warm cup of tea, a walk in nature, or a heartfelt conversation—has helped me stay grounded.

Be Present in Your Current Work: Rather than striving for what’s next, I’ve learned to ask, “What’s before me today that I can steward well?” Take the time to work on preparing your heart for what you are praying/waiting for. Do what you can day by day and only look at each day as if it's what you have.

Practice Stillness: Taking intentional moments to breathe, listen to worship, or simply sit in silence reminds me that I don’t need to have all the answers right now. I do not need to “rush through this lesson period," I can and will make this time one that is full of contentment.

Speak Life Over Your Season: Words hold power over your body and mind. I’ve been speaking positive declarations like “This waiting season is full of purpose” or “Joy is available to me right now.”

Make it Comfortable/Lean into it: Waiting and being patient takes enough effort all on its own. Lean into this season and use small efforts to make it your own, to make it comfortable in the here and now, knowing that you will eventually leave this season and be okay with letting go.

If you’re in a season of waiting, I want to encourage you: Don’t push off joy. Don’t wait for the “next thing” to feel peace. Lean into this season and let Adonai show you how beautiful it can be.
